Impact Biomechanics Lab

Lab 120

Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are responsible for an estimated 50,000 – 75,000 deaths in the U.S. each year, with an additional 1.5 million people suffering from various head injuries. The objective of research in this laboratory is to collect biomechanical data to characterize brain injury in living humans.

Lab 440

The objective of the research in this laboratory is to collect biomechanical data to characterize brain injury in living humans. While data collected describes the organ-level response to impact, the same data can be used in computational models of the skull and brain to determine the tissue-level response to impact. This data may also be applied as a clinical tool for team physicians because the data is available in real-time.
